Hotel Overview

The only privately owned safari lodge set on the banks of Lake St Lucia within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site, the heart of Africa's largest natural estuary.

The name Makakatana is the name of a Zulu Chief called “Makakatana”, who lived in the area many years ago. The southern most bay that opens into Lake St Lucia from the narrows was named after the Chief.

Makakatana Bay Lodge is a 4 Star property which is situated within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, World Heritage Site, Zululand, KwaZulu Natal in South Africa.

Rooms

Guests are accommodated in 6 bright and spacious suites. Three of these are set in the dune forest and are frequented by friendly warthog, red duiker, nyala, bush babies, birds and hippo!

One room has a view out through the bush onto a vlei and the other has a view through the bush onto the Lake.

The Honeymoon suite is situated privately with views out onto a vlei.
