Sun Island Resort & Spa

The Republic of Maldives is a cluster of atolls in the Indian Ocean, Southwest of Sri Lanka. Sun Island is located 62 miles from Male’ International Airport, on the uninhabited island, locally known as Nalaguraidhoo, in South Ari Atoll.

Sun Island measuring about 1.6 km in length and around 380 meters in width has 426 elegantly furnished guestrooms, including 64 water bungalows, 4 are Presidential Suites, 218 Super Deluxe Beach Bungalows and 136 Deluxe Beach Bungalows. All Deluxe and Super Deluxe Beach Bungalows are built on the beach ensuring a direct view of the shore and sea. All Water Bungalows are built on stilts in the lagoon overlooking the vast horizon of either the sunrise or sunset view, from your private deck.

Deluxe Rooms

All the Deluxe rooms are with air-conditioning, hot & cold desalinated water, hair dryer, veranda, shower, mini bar, electronic safe, Satellite TV with in-house movies and internet access. IDD Telephones in room with voice mail facility

Super Deluxe Rooms

All Super Deluxe rooms are with air-conditioning, en suite bath facilities with hot & cold desalinated water, bidet, bath tub, hair dryer, veranda, open shower, mini bar, electronic safe, satellite TV with in-house movies and internet access. IDD Telephones both in room and toilet with voice mail facility.

Water Bungalows

A wooden jetty leading out over the lagoon takes you to this luxurious accommodation. Air-conditioning, hot & cold desalinated water, hair dryer, bidet, bath tub, mini bar, electronic safe, private sun deck, private stair case to the lagoon, satellite TV with inhouse movies and internet access. IDD telephones both in room and bathroom with voice mail facility.

Presidential Suites

The Water Suites built either side of the far end of the jetties provide accommodation for those who want to spend their holiday in style. Each unit is made up of two bedrooms; one master bedroom furnished with a double bed and a twin bedroom with en suite bathrooms, living room with private bar with tea and coffee making facilities and a large private terrace with a Jacuzzi and corner bath in both bathrooms. In addition to the above both the rooms with air-conditioning, hot & cold desalinated water, hair dryer, bidet, bath tub, private bar, electronic safe, satellite TV with in-house movies and internet access. IDD telephones in room and bathroom with voice mail facilities, cordless telephone and a desk top computer is also provided in the living room.

Safe deposit box

Safe deposit lockers are available free of charge at the front desk cashier. Please deposit all your valuables, as the hotel will not be held responsible for valuables that are left in the room or else where in the island.

Sports & Recreation

We provide a wide range of sports and recreational facilities with modern equipment and experienced instructors. These include floodlight tennis, basketball, volleyball, electronic games, squash, indoor badminton, table tennis etc. Amongst the exciting water-sports activities available are scuba diving, wind surfing, catamaran sailing, and canoeing just to name a few. A large swimming pool measuring 1800 square meters and children’s pool is set amidst exotic landscaping. It extends right to the edge of the lagoon. Towards the end of the pool is a swim-up bar.

Health and fitness

Concerning health & fitness, we have a wide variety of activities available to ensure absolute relaxation for your tired muscles. These activities include aromatherapy massage, aerobics, gymnasium, sauna, steam bath, chilled pond, Jacuzzi and saloon, etc.

Clinic

The resort’s clinic is open daily to attend to your medical needs. Staffed with a doctor and nurses, the clinic’s facilities include a well-stocked pharmacy, private rooms for in house treatment.

Entertainment

Sun Island presents you with an exciting weekly entertainment program comprising of live band, disco, Karaoke, competitions, poolside shows and many more to make your evening a lively and an enjoyable one.

The excursion guides would escort & assist you during these trips that include tours to the local fishing villages, tourist resorts, uninhabited islands, fishing & reef snorkelling excursions etc.

Island Discovery (Full Day Island Hopping)

Make it a pleasure to explore more on the locality of the islanders by joining our full day island hopping tour. This includes a barbecue lunch in an uninhabited, takes you to a local island and then to the uninhabited island where you will have a BBQ lunch and gives you the opportunity to swim and sun bathe. You will then be visiting another Resort Island before the tour ends.

Blue Lagoon

A half day trip to an uninhabited island with a BBQ lunch included. Fantastic snorkelling and totally relaxing surroundings!!

“Maaniyaa Restaurant” Main Restaurant (A non smoking restaurant)

Open daily 0730 - 0930hrs, 1230 -1400hrs, 1930 - 2100hrs offer breakfast, lunch and dinner for the guests accommodated on board inclusive terms. The beverage menu covers a wide choice of international wines, fresh and canned juices among other regular and premium beverages.

Coffee Shop

Open round the clock. Located at the beach front under the palm trees overlooking the sea. Convenient dinning from light snacks to meals with a drink of your choice.

Sun Star Restaurant (Thai speciality)

Open from 1200 noon - midnight Located on our house reef at the end of our water bungalows. Offering a variety of snacks & food, afternoon coffee and tea, Happy hour. Seating on the terrace outside overlooking the house reef, fish watching and feeding.

Southern Star Restaurant with Grill Terrace

Open from 7:00am till midnight, with an exclusive à la Carte menu. A wide choice of wines and other beverages are also available. At the scenic setting, the cluster of huts offering fresh catch of the day, seafood and prime meats, in addition to a tempting salad bar. "Al-Pontile" The Italian Restaurant with Japanese corner Taste some of our most delicious, Italian and Japanese specialties on the Italian Restaurant located near the Diving School.

“Mekunu Bar” The Main Bar

Open twenty-four hours, with a wide selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The ideal place to taste exotic and colourful international cocktails with a variety of entertaining programs and animations.

Pool Bar

Take a sit at the pool bar, feel and enjoy the warm sweet waters and just get tanned while sipping your favourite choice.
