restaurant has a less cosy athmospere,the dinner can be improved,more seats outside, great view from the veranda and excellent rooms and room services

Excellent Location, Standard Rooms for the price tag, Excellent Service .

This is not a 5-star hotel, but rather a 3-4 star. That's really too bad especially considering the price asked for the rooms. Very disappointing.

My wife and I recently spent 10 nights at the Domes of Elounda.. We had booked a Premium 1 bedroom suite with a private swimming pool and sea view however on arrival we were told we had been upgraded to a honeymoon suite. This was located at lower level and although spacious the room was lacking in storage space and did not in my view represent an upgrade to what we had booked and seen from the images on the web site. We were given the opportunity to move rooms the following morning which was arranged without any fuss and my general feeling was that the room we landed up in was the room we had paid for . The Domes is in a beautiful location and from the higher levels offers a panoramic view of the Island of Spinalonga and Gulf of Mirabello it is a truly 5 star location.. Based on my experiences of other 5 star hotels however it cannot in my opinion claim to offer the complete 5 star experience and the main reason is the food.. Breakfast is served buffet style no problem with that however the usual expectation of being offered freshly made omelettes, waffles or eggs was lacking and the food from the hot plates was often lukewarm... The hotel advertises 4 restaurants.. The Thollos buffet, the beach/pool bar and 2 a la carte 1910 on the beach and the Anthos which boasts a michelin star menu... I have visited Crete for the last 20 years and one of the things that keeps me coming back is the quality of food and traditional menus neither of which was available in the 1910 or Anthos... In fact Anthos only opens 3 nights per week and is in fact the Pool Bar with table cloths.. On the night we visited we were advised that the Tuna dish could only be served rare.. We asked if the chef would cook the tuna for longer and we were informed not. We decided to leave and took a taxi to nearby Elounda where we went to a taverna where we found a chef who cooked food to our liking... The majority of the staff at Domes are helpful friendly and seek to make every part of your stay at the hotel enjoyable... I would like to make special mention of Emma the Assistant Manager, Giannis the Room Service waiter and Adrian one of the club cart drivers who were exceptionally helpful to us during our stay.. If the food quality and the menus improved I would revisit the Domes but I would want to be certain of the room allocation before I arrived.
