Lindos
Just a few minutes away, the ancient city-state of Lindos, protected by its acropolis, was a major maritime power
Lindos was the birthplace of Cleobulus, one of the Seven Sages of Greece. The city-state was founded around 10th century BC. It was admired for its wealth, beauty and strategic position in the Mediterranean Sea. Rising above the town is the acropolis of Lindos which in classical times was dominated by the massive temple of Athena Lindia, dating back to around 300 BC. This natural citadel was fortified successively by Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Knights of St John and Ottomans. 

Traditional Lindos, with its white houses, ship-owners mansions, Byzantines churches and cobbled narrow lanes, lies at the foot of the rocky acropolis. Taking one of these narrow lanes through the town, or hiring a donkey from the main square, you can ascend the ancient acropolis that stands dominating the village, surrounded by its strong walls. The ancient Byzantine and Knights remains, as well as its astonishing views over the town and sea, make a visit to the acropolis a must. Some of the sights close to Lindos include: Kalathos, with Vlyha's sandy beach and modern hotel complexes; Pylona's famous church of Panagia Kira; Pefkos, an expanding resort with a long shoreline; Lardos, with its beach, quiet Glystra bay, and traditional tavernas. The monastery of the Archangel Michael at Tharri, close to the village of Laerma, is especially interesting.

Eggs, pancakes and waffles are lovingly prepared to order by the Chef. The Lindos Blu ‘deli’ carves speciality meats and cheeses from around the Mediterranean. Don’t miss the traditional corner or the excellent tea tasting selection, lovingly presented to show the medicinal properties and flavours of each variety. A la carte lunch at Smeraldo Restaurant includes delicious Greek meze, fish, pasta, main courses and desserts.
