Zakynthos Island
The Venetians, who owned the island for 600 years, used to call it The Flower of the East. Zakynthos is one of the most-loved and visited Greek islands, with green hillsides covered with flowers during spring and summer seasons, cliffs dropping to incredible turquoise waters, it has some of the country’s best beaches. Along with its natural beauty, it is claimed to have the clearest waters amongst all the islands of the Ionian Sea.
In the summer time, the beaches of Zakynthos become; due to their clean water and soft sand, the breeding places for the threatened sea turtle caretta-caretta. Apart from swimming, do not hesitate to visit the inland of the island and explore what it has to offer.
Beaches
The beaches of the island are known for their natural beauty and exotic emerald waters. The most famous one is the stunning Shipwreck Beach or Navagio as the locals call it, which has soft white sand, turquoise waters, impressive cliffs and mysterious caves all around and can be visited only by boat. Other beautiful beaches in Zakynthos are Gerakas beach, Agios Nikolaos beach, Kalamaki beach, Tsilivi beach and Spanzia beach. Most organized beaches in Zakynthos are on the eastern side of the island, while the other beaches of Zante in the western side are secluded.
Activities
The island has many activities to offer as it is mainly tourist developed. Diving has become very popular in Zakynthos and many diving centres have opened near tourist resorts and areas of the island. These centres offer diving courses and organize trips to interesting reefs and deserted islets. The countryside of the island offers visitors chances for hiking, even though there are not many designated hiking trails, there are old footpaths that lead to hilly villages, monasteries and medieval towers.

Besides the indoor and outdoor restaurants that the Louis Zante Beach has to offer, you can also choose to have your lunch or dinner outside of the hotel. Restaurants in Zakynthos differ from traditional Greek family taverns by the sea to luxurious hotel restaurants. Also, Laganas vicinity, where Louis Zante Beach is located, is actually one of the areas with most restaurants and options.

Zakynthos is an island with a vibrant entertaining nightlife and a hotspot for party-lovers from all over the world, whatever kind of entertainment you are into; you will find it. Besides Zante main town, bars and clubs can be found in many other areas around the island like Laganas. For visitors who are more into a lounge night out, they can head to Zakynthos Town where cosy bars are located in its narrow streets.
