De Russie Hotel

From 19th July till 15th August 2004, The Hotel de Russie in Rome will be undergoing essential marble renovation work in limited areas of the ground floor, first floor and Bar area. Disruption will be kept to an absolute minimum and all the staff will do their very best to ensure guests are not affected and to maintain highest levels of standards.

The Hotel de Russie opened on 15th April 2000 and was an immediate success. It is located on the fashionable Via del Babuino between the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo - literally in the heart of Rome! It was built at the beginning of the 19th century by the celebrated architect Giuseppe Valadier and today this five star deluxe property of 125 Rooms, of which there are 31 Suites. One of the main attractions is its beautiful secret garden of 3000 square metres where the restaurant "Le Jardin du Russie", the "Stravinkij Bar" and meeting rooms extend during the summer season. Another main feature that distinguishes the Hotel de Russie from its competitors in the five star deluxe category in Rome, is the gorgeous Health Spa with a complete Fitness Centre, Sauna, Hamam and Beauty Salon. Rome is a beautiful city steeped in history, combining the ancient remains of a two thousand-year past with the excitement of a modern European Capital. It offers its visitors more to see than any other city in the world. It is also within easy walking distance of some of the most famous attractions within the city, including The Colosseum (the Classical Amphitheatre) - one of the most awe-inspiring monuments of the ancient world which in surprisingly good repair. The Vatican City (Papal state) including St Peter's and the Sistine Chapel is a ten minute walk from the hotel. Among other attractions that are only minutes away are The Pantheon on Via del Seminario, built by the architect emperor Hadrian two thousand years ago and is a huge domed roof housing the tomb of Raphael, and The Santa Maria sopra Minerva - a Gothic thirteenth Century Church in Centro Storico that houses the tombs of wealthy Romans and priceless frescoes. The Campidoglio is the city hall, located on the Capitoline hill. One of Rome's most elegant squares, it was designed by Michealangelo and features some of the city's primary classical sculpture and Museums. A stunning feature of the Hotel is its extensive terraced gardens, which provide a tranquil oasis amidst the bustle of central Rome. Singles & Doubles: Hanging on the walls of the rooms there are none of the usual reproductions of period prints typical of Grand Hotels (in Rome as elsewhere), but only "genuine" signed photography (in itself a genre made to be reproduced) with large colour photographs of flowers by the great photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. The walls, which are deliberately just painted, are all in very delicate, restful pastel hues, as is the upholstery. There are various types of bathroom, but they are all in marble or marble mosaic. The Bathroom designs range from the classical to the contemporary, but in all cases classical materials are used.

The Hotel de Russie has been restored to its former splendour following a full refurbishment of its interiors, its beautiful terraced garden (the famous "Giardino Segreto" leading to the Pincio) and its elegant Neo-classic facade.

The Hotel has come back to life, with the same name which made it a legendary hotel for almost two centuries. During this time it has been linked with the history of Rome and the aristocratic travellers - visiting the city. Members of European and Russian Royal families and other famous international figures contributed to its fame and notoriety. Sumptuous parties were organised in the surroundings of the "Giardino Segreto" by the Roman aristocracy of the day.

The charming setting of the "Giardino Segreto" is today the domain of Nazzareno Graziano Menghini, Executive Chef of the Hotel Restaurant Le Jardin du Russie. The Restaurant offers a classic Italian gastronomic experience. Nazzareno's dishes are colourful and fragrant, inspired by the ingredients and the aromatic smells of the Mediterranean. His cooking is finely balanced, always using fresh Italian seasonal produce. In particular many of his dishes include fish. His style, at times surprisingly simple, never looses sight of the primary ingredient being used but always offering interesting interpretations of well known dishes.

During the summer months Le Jardin du Russie welcomes its dining guests with tables prepared in the garden and on the Terrazza Diaghilev for private exclusive dining by candlelight. The sophisticated Sala Torlonia is also available all year round for elegant private functions.

The "Giardino Segreto", a verdant haven of tranquillity, has been restored to its fame as a fashionable meeting venue where Nazzareno's specialities are also served as inviting Roman snacks to accompany drinks at the Stravinskji Bar or during exclusive Cocktail parties.

The Stravinskij Bar has an extensive selection of refreshments and Roman delicacies if you would prefer something lighter. For lunch we offer a delicious buffet whereby you can eat in the sunshine; in the afternoon traditional tea is served or for the evening, why not savour one of our extensive Martini cocktails like the 'De Russie Martini' served with caviar, whilst enjoying our live music in the Russie gardens.
