Welcome to the Excelsior Palace Hotel, in Rapallo
The unique setting of the Excelsior Palace Hotel, facing the bay of Rapallo
to the est and the headland of Portofino to the west, has inspired a return to
the elegance of the early 1900s, when the international beau monde gathered
here. Refined and comfortable ambiences reflect the warm colours of the sun and
the sea; the guest rooms and suites look out onto one of the literature’s most
celebrated panoramas.
HistoryIts history begins in January 1901 , when on the Ciappadea Cliff behind
Rapallo's Kursaal, the New Casino opened its doors for the first time; later
called Excelsior Palace constructed following plans drawn
up by Architect Verrey from Lausanne. In 1914 one of the first films with
external shooting was filmed here.
It was the "Birth of a Ship", interpreted and directed by Gian Paolo Rosmarino a
notable figure in the history of Italian Cinema. Even though the Casino was
transfered to San Remo,in1928, the Excelsior remained High
Society's favorite spot.
Location
The Excelsior Palace Hotel is situated on the spectacular Portofino coast
with two magnificent views, overlooking the Gulf of Rapallo and Gulf of
Portofino.

Sober, refined elegance in a gracious setting that spills over onto the
terrace, where the day starts with a rich, appetising breakfast buffet featuring
regional and low-calorie delicacies. A blend of tradition, refinement and
creative culinary skill, together with the pleasure of impeccable service and
the ever-fascinating view that the large, luminous windows capture at every hour
of the day

The Lord Byron Restaurant, with its light-filled windows
overlooking the Gulf of Tigullio, is famous for its regional and Mediterranean
cuisine.
Open from June to September, the Eden Roc Restaurant, sitting
sheer above the sea, is the coast's most exclusive restaurant for romantic
candlelit dinners.
The Yachting Bar: a marine atmosphere, with warm woods and
lots of “sea-dog” memorabilia. A youthful setting for the pleasure of a
cocktail and the cheerful cordiality of an after-dinner drink. In summer an
aperitif takes on added appeal served at little green wrought-iron tables on the
terrace so that guests can enjoy the heady fragrance of the sea and the glow of
a romantic sunset.
