Grand Hotel Timeo

This is the first Hotel in Taormina, in front of the Roman-Greek Theatre, it dates back to 1873 and represents the major expression of Framon style. In a park of 25.000m², populated by numerous typical floral species, the historical Hotel contains the famous "literary terrace". Surrounded by a spectacular panorama, the terrace represents the ideal meeting place for well-known guests.

In 1873, the Grand Hotel Timeo, Taormina's first hotel, is born and a myth begins... Today, after expert restoration which has wisely conserved its elegant style whilst at the same time introducing the latest technology, it has become one of the most resplendent realities of the Italian hotel industry.

Completely unique, with its position amidst the most unforgettable sceneries that pass one after the other, one glance can encompasse the sunlit Bay of Naxos, the majestic volcano mount Etna and the Greek-Roman Amphitheatre. It is plunged in a centuries old park of cypresses and magnolias.

At the end of the 19° century, it becomes the favourite destination of reigning monarchs, aristocrats, politicians, illustrious scholars and famous artists: William II Kaiser of Germany, Umberto II, Marconi, Gide, Guy de Maupassant, Liz Taylor, Richard Burton. Its hospitality has its roots in the noble tradition of Sicily.

Guy de Maupassant said: Taormina is only a landscape, but a landscape, where you seem to find everything created on the earth to seduce the eyes, the spirit and the imagination.

Taormina, so called jewel of Sicily, is the ideal centre to do some excursion, in order to admire the artistic and natural beauties of Eastern Sicily: in the same area there are: Castelmola, Naxos and the Alcantara's Gorges, more distant are Messina and the Eolian Islands, while nearby Catania there are: Etna Mountain, the baroque Acireale with the beautiful Timpa, and of course Catania and Siracusa.

Framed by the most beautiful and evocative terrace in Taormina, which seems to be suspended between the sea and the sky, the hotel's restaurant Il Dito e la Luna offers all that is refined and genuine in Sicilian and Mediterranean cuisine. The characteristic Bar La Zagara, work of the ancient wisdom of the Sicilian teachers of the gypsum, creates the magic and pleasant atmosphere of the gardens in the winter, like in the real abodes in baroque style, here it's pleasant to converse with friends or to participate to informal meetings of job.
