History

Erected on the Poreta Hills in the XII century A.D., Silvignano is a villa of the medieval Spoleto County that lies at 600 m. above sea level, opposite the "Rocche di Pianciano". After the year 1378, Silvignano was given armed forces and defenses to protect it against incursions of armed clans. In 1480 Spoleto annexed Silvignano to the Poreta Castle for a fee of 100 fiorini.

In the village are remarkable medieval ruins such as the XIV century votive chapel with original frescos of the "Maestro di Fossa" and the churches of Saint Matthew and Saint John, as well as ruins dated XII century. "Le Logge di Silvignano" is one of the most remarkable medieval buildings in all of Spoleto County. A magnificent Open Gallery with octagonal pillars, added in the fifteenth-century, embellishes its facade.
