Des Bergues Hotel
Hotel Overview
HistoryFounded
in 1834, the Hotel des Bergues was the first Hotel in Geneva. In an
illustrious 165 years, world statesmen, royalty and celebrities have all found
it a home away from home.
Going back to history, a German gentleman, Hans Kleberger, is at the origin of
the name Hotel des Bergues.
He
immigrated to Lyon in 1525, during the reign of King François I, achieved some
important financial affairs and became the King’s private valet in 1543. While
living there, he acquired a secondary residence situated on Geneva’s right
bank of the river Rhone which he came to prefer and decided to move there. In
Geneva he became a very influential person.
At Hans Kleberger’s death, his son squandered his fortune. The property then
became an Indian spinning factory until General Dufour bought it to build the
Hotel des Bergues which opened on May 1, 1834.
Very
soon, the Hotel prized itself on an excellent reputation, as can be seen in its Livre
d’or : there are a countless number of signatures of the European
Monarchy from the XIXth Century and he XXth Century,
followed by numerous political figures, who as from the founding of League of
Nations in 1920, elected the Hotel des Bergues as their ante-chambre.
Today,
in this magnificent neo-classical building, hospitality combines tradition,
modern efficiency and personalised care
to please discerning guests.

boarding on a semipedestrian zone, the Hotel des Bergues offers

and the historical old town. In the heart of Geneva, the Hotel des Bergues is
