Hotel Overview
Dolder Grand Hotel closed on July 3, 2004 temporarily for major renovation
works. The reopening will be in autumn 2008.
HistoryHOTEL MILESTONES:
1896 : Ground-breaking of the Hotel from the plans of the architect Jacques Gros.
1899 : The Dolder Grand Hotel opened its doors on May 10th, 1899 as a seasonal Hotel (
open from April to October ) with Mr. Dielmann as General Manager.
1902 : The Hotel's own Telegraph Office was installed.
1907 : Zurich's first Golf Course opened as a special attraction of the Hotel.
1915 : The Hotel stayed open for the whole year round in order to look after foreign
guests who stayed in Zurich for the duration of the First World War.
1923 : Major Renovation, after which all the Guest Rooms had Running Water or Private
Bathrooms.
1924 : The Hotel entrance was moved and the Restaurant " La Rotonde " was
built. The Kitchens were moved and rebuilt.
1948 : The Hotel underwent a total renovation. All the Rooms then had Private Baths.
1950 : The Kitchens received Electricity.
1964 : A new addition to the Hotel opened with 60 Rooms and Suites and was completely
integrated with the Main Building.
1968 : The Ballroom was rebuilt, Air-conditioned and equipped with simultaneous
translation booths.
1983 - 1987 : All the Bedrooms and Suites in the Main Building were renovated.
1987 : Mr. Heinrich J. Hunold was appointed General Manager.
1987 - 1998 : The new Wing was entirely renovated, thus completing the renovation
program of the entire Hotel.
1990 - 1992 : Building of an Underground Parking with 250 Parking Spaces.
1992 : Opening of the Underground Garage.
1996 : Reopening of the totally renovated Restaurant " La Rotonde ".
1997 : The 25 year old Telephone System was replaced with a modern Digital System with
ISDN and Voice-mail.
1998 : On July 1st we opened a state of the art and do-it-yourself business Centre,
available 24 hours a day.

The romantically-styled Building ( constructed by the architect Jacques Gros ) is situated
within a Wooded Park in the exclusive Residential area of Zurich, overlooking the City, the
Lake of Zurich and the Swiss Alps and is only a few minutes driving time to Downtown. Easily
accessible to the Airport in only 15 minutes, without having to drive through the City
Traffic.
Monday to Saturday there is a complimentary Shuttle Service to the Main Station ( City
Center ). Chauffeured Limousine on request. The Chauffeurs await guests in the Customs Hall at
the Airport to assist with the luggage. Dolder funicular runs every 10/15 minutes to RĪmerhof.
From here, guests can reach the Downtown area quickly by taking the convenient Streetcars.
Rooms
The Hotel consists of 163 Rooms ( Singles & Doubles ), including 11 Suites and 21 Junior
Suites.
The Grand Suites ( the essence of luxury ) are in the Central Tower. The Corner
Suites are at both ends of the Main Building and the newer Wing.
The Junior Suites are spacious Rooms. Some are divided into a Sitting Area and a
Sleeping Alcove by decorative Curtains. Simply relax and enjoy the ambience.
The Rooms are decorated in a warm, traditional style and complete with all up-to-date
amenities and comforts to ensure a memorable stay. They offer spaciousness in soft shades.
All the Rooms & Suites are traditionally furnished and have all the comforts,
Digital Telephone System with ISDN Connection and Voice-mail, TV, Safe, Mini Bar, Hairdryer,
Bathrobe, etc.

The Dolder Grand Hotel and the Dolder Waldhaus Hotel bring work and free time together. All
the following Sports and relaxation possibilities are complimentary for all guests of both
Hotels.
There is a 9-hole Golf Course ( handicap required ), a Pro Shop and a
Clubhouse. All the equipment can be rented. Season : April to November.
The Swimming Pool is situated at the Dolder Waldhaus Hotel for an Outdoor Sunbathing
in the summer. Massage and Solarium are offered Fee of charged.
The Fitness Corner at the Dolder Grand Hotel has a complete assortment of most modern
training equipment.
There are 5 Clay Tennis Courts with a Clubhouse and a Restaurant. All
the equipment can be rented. Season : April to October.
A Public Open-air Ice Skating Rink with a Restaurant and a Kiosk. All
the equipment can be rented. Season: October to March.
The Hotel has also a Public Open-air Swimming Wave Pool with a
Restaurant and a kiosk, Children's Pools and a Playground. Season :
May to beginning September.
The Mini Golf Course is situated next to the Open-air Pool with a Kiosk Season
: May to beginning September.
Forest : Miles of woodland trails for Walking and Jogging are right on the
Hotel's doorsteps.
Food & Beverages
Mediterranean Cuisine, carefully selected exquisite Wines in an elegant atmosphere.
La Rotonde, the fine Dining Restaurant overlooking the lake and the Swiss Alps offers a
culinary delight from the Mediterranean cuisine and invites guests to linger and enjoy. Also
famous for the Business Lunch and its unique Wine List.
The place to meet and to enjoy international specialties.
The Dolder Bar, the Bistro De Luxe, offers International specialties from Asia,
Europe and California. An exquisite choice of Wines by the glass, malt-whiskies, cigars and
live evening Piano entertainment await the guests.
Enjoy the spring sun on the Terrace with an afternoon-tea.
In July & August, Saturdays, the Chefs will serve you with whatever your heart desires,
from
cervelat sausages to fish, straight from the Grill. You can also help yourself to the lavish
Buffet.
THE DOLDER ALP:
On August 1, 2001 - the Swiss National Day - we are turning the Restaurant La Rotonde, the
Terrace and the Garden into an Alp and spoil our guests with Traditional Swiss
Specialties.
Swiss Folkloric Music, a Buffet with Swiss specialties as well as Barbecue are the
highlights of this evening. Due to the different Fireworks around the Lake the View from the
Terrace is even more spectacular than usual.
