Since April of 1995, a unique experience awaits tourists or businessmen coming to Zurich. After some 10 years of planning and construction and with an investment of some SFr. 180 million, the Widder Hotel - one of Europe's most talked about projects - opened it's doors to guests.

"Hotel" is actually a misconception in this case, as here we deal with a grouping of 10 ancient buildings, some of which dating back to the 11th century! They are located in the heart of the Old City of Zurich, on the left bank of the Limmat nestled in picturesque side streets full of elegant boutiques, prestigious galleries and calorie-laden Swiss chocolates.

The Widder Hotel comprises 42 guest rooms and 7 suites, some with their own roof terrace. All rooms are located in eight carefully restored historic buildings. A truly remarkable and exceptional aspect about the Widder Hotel is that no two rooms are alike. Each one is a singular composition in terms of floor plan, furnishings, appointments and moods - every single room is one-of-a-kind and distinctive. Indeed, this is quite likely what you would expect from a very refined private residence.

The rooms are equipped with all modern technology, aimed at making life easier. All rooms contain a TV set, 3 telephone lines, a direct fax, Bang&Olufsen CD set and personal safe. The small high-tech fitness corner offers the possibility to work out after a hard day's work.

The distinctive ambience of the Widder Hotel is attributable to the fortunate conjugation and interaction of a proud architectural legacy and highly advanced communications and security technologies. Each room is fully air-conditioned; amenities include a telefax machine with a separate, private number, a direct-dial telephone with a modem jack and cable TV with more than 40 stations in various languages.

Guests can enjoy three restaurants which are also open to the public, serving the very best of Swiss cuisine. Every guest can choose the atmosphere best suited to his own taste and mood, as every restaurant is differently designed. The Widder Bar has, since opening, become the hottest place in town and we proudly say, the shelves of the "Library of Spirits" contain almost 1000 bottles in 320 varieties of alcoholic beverages, among them over 130 different types of whiskey. Appearances of well known jazz artists take place every Tuesday evening and the place is then full of local celebrities.

Enjoy genuine palatal delights: The elegance of Swiss cuisine.

The Widder Restaurant consists of two parts with completely different interiors. The same refined culinary pleasures await you in both settings: Our specialties menu features a selection of original and very popular fish and meat dishes from all regions of Switzerland as well as vegetarian creations. Every day, the bill of fare is enriched with three additional lunch menus. Don’t miss the Wirtschaft Zur Schtund, a popular meeting place where you can enjoy the company of local people in a relaxed pub-like atmosphere.

THE WIDDER BAR:

World fame that goes back a long time: "Jazz at the Widder".

Decades before the Widder Hotel was opened, the Widder Bar was a famous haven of jazz. Musicians from all over the world and live jazz lovers from all over Europe gathered here. Many big jazz careers started or culminated at this bar. The Widder Hotel brought this fine tradition back to life in 1995. At the tastefully renovated Widder Bar, you can enjoy live performances by the likes of Abby Lincoln (voc), Hank Jones (piano) or Phil Woods (sax).
