HistoryBovey Castle was built in 1906 under the ownership of
Viscount Hambledon, son of the business baron WH Smith who was also First Sea
Lord of the Admiralty. As is evidences today, no expense was spared in either
the scale or the quality of craftsmanship, creating an exceptional country home
with grand oak panelled drawing rooms, large open fire- places, ornate broad
stairways and magnificent oak panelled Great Hall, opening onto the stone
balustraded garden terraces.
An internationally renowned and historic Championship Golf Course was built
in 1926, which is currently being fully restored and will re- open for play in
June 2004.
