HistoryBovey Castle was built in 1906 under the ownership of
Viscount Hambledon, son of the business baron WH Smith who was also First Sea
Lord of the Admiralty. As is evidences today, no expense was spared in either
the scale or the quality of craftsmanship, creating an exceptional country home
with grand oak panelled drawing rooms, large open fire- places, ornate broad
stairways and magnificent oak panelled Great Hall, opening onto the stone
balustraded garden terraces.
An internationally renowned and historic Championship Golf Course was built
in 1926, which is currently being fully restored and will re- open for play in
June 2004.

Bovey Castle is set within 368 square miles of the Dartmoor National
Park, about 150 miles south west of London in the glorious county of Devon, 17
miles from Exeter, 35 miles from Plymouth and 85 miles from Bristol.

of old and New World wines. The Hotel's knowledgeable Sommelier will guide your

The Castle’s main Dining Room is equally impressive, in
the style of an original 1920’s art deco Palm Court, with chinoiserie
hand-painted wall coverings, the ambience combines the feeling of bygone days
and meticulous service.
A number of the Reception Rooms are available for private dining. The
atmosphere is elegant and highly luxurious with the finest linen and glassware,
specially commissioned to complement the decor.
